19.04.2018: Official Side Event of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue by DCSP and BSW

Energy and Heat: Combining CSP, PV and Solar Thermal – A holistic approach for making the most of solar energy

The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue has proven to be an ideal platform for an international public and private audience to come together to discuss viable concepts for the ongoing transformation of the energy sector – the Energiewende. In 2017, Foreign and Energy Ministers met with some 2,000 participants such as CEOs, Managing Directors, Presidents, Directors, Managers, and Heads of Department from more than 90 countries to discuss ways that national governments and energy sector stakeholders can contribute to meeting the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda.

Within the framework of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2018 in Berlin, the German Association for Concentrated Solar Power and the German Solar Association will conduct a joint workshop in the Regent Berlin, Charlottenstrasse 49 in 10117 Berlin on the 19thof April 2018 from 9 am to 4 pm:

Energy and Heat: Combining CSP, PV and Solar Thermal – A holistic approach for making the most of solar energy

While PV and Solar Thermal have very low energy generation costs, CSP has recently witnessed a dramatic cost decrease. At a price of around 6 €ct/kWh for systems with integrated storage the technology can now complement fluctuating renewables in sun-belt countries. All three technologies can be used to provide electricity or heat / cooling for different applications or temperature levels at competitive costs.

Within this context the workshop will focus on comprehensive solar solutions, especially the combination of PV, CSP, solar thermal, solar-biomass hybrids and new storage technologies. It will provide an overview of best practice reports on actual projects at allow a stable, low cost energy supply in sun-belt countries.

Two panels will inform the audience about:

  • Costs for reliable and flexible solar power from PV-CSP and CSP-biomass hybrids, and advanced thermal storage technologies
  • Solar process heat for industries, solar district heating and cooling
